While we all love this time of year, sometimes it can all get a bit out of hand, as the high is followed by a crash. I'll be posting a few little words of inspiration over the coming weeks to help you find that vital balance, without becoming Grinch.
1/ Hydration. Drink plenty of water to help counteract excessive festive indulgences. Drink a glass of lukewarm water first thing in the morning to help kick-start the body's natural detox processes.
2/ Epsom Salt Baths: A miracle cure for tiredness, aches, pains and the dreaded post Christmas energy drain. Melt away the strain!
3/ Bitter Herbs. Check out Dílis Clare Herbal Bitters to provide a general tonic to help your body cope with any Xmas excess. In addition, join Tara Canning Nutrition & I on our super luxurious, yet highly inspiring mindfulness & nutrition retreat, to discover the best foods to incorporate into your diet to stimulate the bodies natural 'detox' processes.
4/ Keep up with nutrient rich foods. Even if you have gone over board with delicious delights, make sure you keep up with healthy options to increase energy & vitality.
5/ Daily Foot Massage - give yourself a foot rub. Your feet have a copious amount of acupressure points that relate to every part of your body. When you massage your feet you are giving your whole body a little bit of healing magic.
6/ HUFF & PUFF for 20 mins a day... As retired Yale Professor, Harvey Wasserman stated to me once: "Aerobic exercise can help people cope better with life's challenges. Huffing and puffing for 25 to 30 minutes a day for four to five days a week has been scientifically proven to shift brain chemistry.
Exercise relieves anxiety, depression and, in some cases, can make people feel better almost immediately. If physically compromised, huff and puff for five minutes a day initially and then build up the minutes over several weeks" (Harvey).
In addition, spend time 'huffing & puffing' outdoors: nature is the perfect antidote to exhaustion and the winter blues!
And of course, last but not least... take some space away from the chaos. Those special moments are a rich source of mindful recuperation to keep you in good cheer throughout the season.
